Chapter Six

I awoke with a wide smile on my face. Nestled in his arms, I felt no sense of shame, doubt, or regret. There was just happiness in my mind. I stretched out my fingertips and toes and snuggled into the handsome man beside me, enjoying all of the warmth and comfort he had to offer. The golden sun bathed our bodies in its ethereal rays and I thought to myself that it was heaven; but then reality hit and I realized that I was going to have to return to the world and my real life. The fantasy of the previous night was becoming a thing of the past and I was unsure of what the future held.

I bit my lip and my head sank into the pillow. I exhaled deeply and looked across at Chip’s body. One arm was resting above his head. The bed sheet lay draped across his stomach, exposing his chest. My gaze followed the sensual curve of his bicep down his powerful shoulders, to the comforting and masculine bed of hair on his chest and then down deeper, to the heaven beneath the sheets. A deep hunger inside me had been awakened and there was no doubt in my mind now that I was indeed gay, but that brought with it a whole host of other problems, such as what to tell my father.

Chip soon stirred and smiled at me, wrapping an arm around my neck and pulling me in for a kiss.

“Last night was amazing,” he sighed. “I’m glad you came around. Forget about everything I said before.”

“I’m glad you had a good time. I did too,” I said, although now it was my turn to be tentative. “Chip…what happens next?”

Chip pursed his lips together and gazed up at the ceiling.

“Honestly? I don’t know. I’ve spent my whole career in the closet and maybe I should be brave and tell my secret to the world, but I’d rather be remembered for my exploits on the ice rather than anything else. I don’t want to risk anything by coming out now, not when I’m so close to retirement. If anyone found out, the entire team dynamic would be thrown off and your career would begin with a baptism of fire. Given the way your Dad feels about this I’m not sure what that would mean for your home life either.”

“It all sounds so bad when you say it like that,” I said despondently. Chip adjusted his position so that he was facing me and placed his hand under my chin, tilting my head up. He smiled reassuringly and kissed me on the head.

“What matters is that we both had a good time. If we’re careful we can pull this off and nobody will be any the wiser. We can say that we’re working hard to get a good understanding on the ice. It’s natural for us to spend a lot of time together and nobody is going to suspect anything. Sure, it sucks that we have to keep it quiet, but it’s better than everyone being in our business.
